Impotence

Michigan ED Clinics Specialize in Treating Impotence Safely & Effectively

Impotence, also known as erectile dysfunction (ED) photoImpotence, also known as erectile dysfunction (ED), is defined as the inability to achieve or maintain an erection long enough to engage in sexual intercourse. It is estimated that 30 million men frequently suffer from impotence. Problems with impotence may stem from poor blood flow, chronic illnesses, medications, or even alcohol.  An occasional problem achieving an erection is nothing to worry about, but failure to achieve an erection more than 50% of the time at any age may indicate a condition that needs treatment. Diseases and Medications that Contribute to Impotence

Impotence, or ED, is one of the most common chronic diseases affecting men, and its prevalence increases with aging. Related causes of ED are variable and can include arterial, neurogenic, hormonal, cavernosal, psychogenic, or iatrogenic causes.

As men age, the vascular supply to the penis is compromised. That aging is often associated with increasing degrees of atherosclerotic vascular alterations in the arterial bed of the penis, which is common in men over sixty.

Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer treatments, like radical prostatectomy, robotic prostatectomy, external beam radiation, and/or implanted radiation seeds can cause injury to the nerves of the penis, which can lead to impotence. Treatments for prostate cancer can worsen erectile function and libido.

Parkinson’s Disease

Parkinson’s disease (PD) may also contribute to impotence. It is evident that Parkinson’s disease (PD) plays a major role in the deterioration of the quality of life in patients and their partners. The loss of dissatisfaction and desire with a man’s sexual life is worsened concurrently with the progression of Parkinson’s symptoms.

Medications & Physical Trauma

Medications such as blood pressure pills, antihistamines, antidepressants such as Paxil and Prozac, as well as smoking, excessive alcohol consumption and illicit drug use may result in impotence.

Some types of physical trauma and injuries, especially those affecting the pelvic area or spinal cord, may cause nerve damage leading to impotence (or ED). Surgery such as orthopedic, fistula, colon, or rectal can also significantly contribute to impotence.

What Causes Male Impotence?

Male impotence can be caused by a number of factors. While everyone’s body is different, most cases can be treated either at home or with the help of a professional. This guide will go over some of the most common reasons for male impotence… Read More…
